I met Ryuya at a friend's wedding in Fukushima. We've been friends ever since. Ryura runs a warm and friendly izakaya in Kyoto, and dishes out some fantastic home cooked food.
The tebasaki, yakisoba and tempura were amazing. But the highlight was Ryuya's "one-night chicken", which is chicken that's been marinated overnight in yuzu sansho, grilled to perfection over charcoal fire, and served with... you guessed it - another portion of freshly made yuzu sansho.
A word of caution: if he likes you, he'll probably pour you copious amounts of Junmai Daiginjo.
