Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station and a huge pile of coal at the background

I captured this scene on 17 October 2009, when protesters from Climate Camp, Climate Rush and Plane Stupid took part in 'The Great Climate Swoop' at E.ON's Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station. The police arrested more than 10 people before the protest began, on suspicion of conspiracy to cause criminal damage. More than 1,000 people took part in the protest, and during this scene groups of a few hundred people pulled down the security fence on the left side of the "father" (the man drinking water in the picture) before charging in to take control of the station. About 60 arrests were made that day and many people were left injured, including some policemen who had to be airlifted to hospital.

I recall the loudest chants being, "E.ON, F OFF! E.ON, F OFF!"

I thought that was quite unfortunate and charming at the same time.
