Post-class happiness at Sankar / by Dimitra Taslim

There are many things about this photo that make me happy. The thanaka; the glee; the unabashed curiosity; the fact that math is being taught 6 hours from Inle in a remote village accessible only by boat.

And the promise. The pure, unadulterated positivity. There is a unique quality about a child's form of optimism that is beyond comprehension.

Surely this is proof of the power of education - to impart but most importantly to empower and to legitimise hopes and aspirations.

P.S.
I thought those back row kids were Wu-Tang fans but I was wrong. They were merely waving at me.
